Untapped Possibilities in your Workforce
Bradley Savoy April 1, 2008
The U.S. Department of Labor recently unveiled a free database of candidates with disabilities who are seeking employment.
This is part of the DOL’s Workforce Recruitment Program to create vehicle for companies to hire workers for summer jobs, train and evaluate them, and then transition them into permanent positions upon graduation. Federal employers can tap into this resource online, and other employers can request unlimited searches by calling 866-327-6669.
Hiring disabled workers can have benefits you never imagined, and their performance can truly surprise you. This is a brief story of Jason McElway. Jason has autism, and after years of being a manager of his school’s basketball team his coach decided to put him in the game and let him play. Jason scored 20 points in 4 minutes.
So what untapped talent could your organization find out there? Or do you already have talent in your company that may have been overlooked. Do you have a Jason McElway in your midst? Have you given them a chance to rise to the occasion?
